Gerrit Zalm will be one of the speakers for TEIMUN 2010!
The Board of Directors proudly announces that our first speaker for the Opening of TEIMUN will be Gerrit Zalm!
Gerrit Zalm (born 6 May 1952) is a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Netherlands. He was the longest serving Minister of Finance in the history of the Netherlands and he has been responsible for numerous reforms of the Dutch economy. Furthermore he had a clear voice in European monetary relations as he demanded the application of the strict rules of the Stability and Growth Pact by all the European Union member states. Especially southern European countries had problems dealing with these criteria. In 2006 he stepped down from politics and ended up working for the DSB bank. On 21 November 2008 it was announced by the Dutch Prime minister Balkenende that Zalm would be the new CEO of the newly merged and nationalized banks, ABN-AMRO and Fortis Netherlands.
